Gosh darn it to heck
(14) Purdue 68, (15) Indiana 77
We should have won this game. Certainly had the opportunities. Certainly had the shots. When you go 25-72 (34.7%) from the floor, and 7-27 (25.9%) for 3-pointers, you basically give the game away. Layups missed. Semi-challenging-but-makeable under-the-basket shots missed. Indiana had 23 turnovers. 23. Purdue had 4. Indiana played horribly. We played worse.
Maybe the fame was getting to the young team. Who knows? It sucked to watch.
So here's what has been lost: If Purdue had won, they would own tie-breakers over Wisconsin and Indiana for the conference title, not to mention being a game up on the other two. Now Indiana owns the tie-breaker over Purdue, and of course they don't get to play in West Lafayette. Looking ahead at Indiana's schedule, cream-puff Northwestern on the road, previously-beaten OSU at home, previously-beaten MSU on the road (probably the only real shot at a loss remaining on the schedule), promising but still not really a contender Minnesota at home, and cream-puff PSU on the road. So. Might as well handle the title to IU now.
Such a promising season comes down to one game. Golly gosh darn it.
Oh well. We can beat them in the Big Ten Tournament.
